Kevin Rose’s take on Location Awareness and Applications like Foursquare and Gowalla

Interesting applications that I wasn’t aware of… thanks for the heads up Mandi! These both have potential implications for my local side-business, Erie Simple Sites.

This has huge potential…. my head swims with the possibilities…

  • Brick and Mortar Businesses can start to get hard data on who is visiting their stores just like online shops get analytics on website visitors.
  • Businesses could offer customer loyalty features unthought of previously (love the idea of people becoming mayors by being the most frequented person).

“For example, foursquare can tell you how many times a customer has been to your venue or the frequency of their visits. Many venues are now using this data to reward their most loyal customers with freebies or discounts.”  - http://www.foursquare.com/businesses/

My hero makes some great points about why social location sharing is really exciting.

(Also, for the millionth time: I want an iPhone! Have I mentioned this? Bye-bye, Blackberry…)
