I’m glad we saved some money, but will it explode?
I needed a new battery for my laptop… Client support was cool enough to get me one the same day.
The old battery was Dell OEM, produced in Japan, and UL certified.
The new battery is not OEM, produced in China, and has no UL certification what-so-ever. WTF?!
Is my crotch going to catch on fire in the near future with this non-UL battery?
I’m sure it shaved a few pennies of the purchase price but I don’t ever by a non-UL device for home and am shocked my company would be purchasing them to cut costs.
I’ve seen plenty of non-UL items for sale in stores before, particularlly dollar stores. Things like fans, for example, I saw one fan that was UL listed for $12.99 and one that wasn’t for $9.99. I’ll pay $3 more for a little sanity that someone, somewhere, is checking the work that is put into the product (solder points, wiring, etc. etc.).
Safety first!
